Biography
Janet was born Janet Damita Jo Jackson on May 16, 1966. Her first love was horse-riding but as she got older, she began to show talent as a performer. In 1973, Janet appeared with her six brothers and her sister, La Toya in the second Jackson family act, The Jacksons, but she decided to pursue a career in acting.
She returned to music in 1982 when she released her first music album, 'Janet Jackson'. Despite being a fairly good effort, this album and the next 'Dream Street' weren't very successful for the young singer. Following some difficult times in her personal life, Janet retreated from the scene for a couple of years.
During this time she worked with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and concentrated on developing her songwriting skills. In 1986, she re-emerged to become one of the most popular female singer/ songwriters of the last decade.
Albums include: 'Control', 'Rhythm Nation' 'Janet' and 'Design of the Decade'. In 1995, Janet joined her brother Michael on the massive hit single 'Scream'.
