Integrated Network Services Further Assignment Notes 28/11/01
The assignment hand-in date has changed. The latest hand-in date/time is now 14th December before 12.00
Q. There is no default 10Base5 model available, what should I do?
A. You can either create a 10Base5 Ethernet Model, or use an Ethernet model that is available, and state in your report what you used and why. Since some students have already completed a 10Base5 model then one or two additional marks will be allocated for the 10Base5 model.
Q.I cannot save my model to a floppy disk, what should I do?
A.This is no longer required, and was never part of the marks allocation. It was requested in order to catch any discrepencies which may appear in the report. "You may be asked to discuss your report with your tutor" also covers this.
Q.I have had problems with insufficient homespace for saving models, what is being done about this?
A.The homespace has now been increased (via CIS) to 30MB, and the assignment has been extended for one week. The assignment hand-in date is now 14th December before 12.00.
Q.How many words should be in the report?
A.There is no maximum/minimum specified. Since it is a technical report however, it should be concise. If you feel that something is required in order to evaluate the performance & utilization of the LAN's, then include the information. If you feel it is not required, or cannot be justified, then do not include it in the report.
Q.Should I include screenshots of the simulations in the report?
A.Yes.
Q.I cannot get the tutorial simuation to run, what should I do?
A.Please see Iain Hughes ASAP.
Q.The machine locks up when I carry out certain simulations, what should I do?
A.Make a note in your report of the circumstances. You could also try simplifying the model, as it is not necessary to produce complex models for this assignment.
Q.I am having difficulty in pitching the level of the report, what should I do?
A.If you were in a company, and you were asked to evaluate a network and comment on possible effects to the network due to future expansion of the network. You could model the network, produce a report, and present your findings to other network specialists within the company. This is the level you should be pitching this report.
