How do I evaluate existing web-based presentations and critique their functionality?

For this exercise you will need to do a little bit of research. You can do this as an individual, or you might join up with a few colleagues and share your results.

The basic information can be found in the following hyperlink:

However this is only a starting point and you are advised to look further for other resources, such as alternative texts or on the internet.

Once you have completed your research and made some notes, try the review questions below. Evaluating anything can be subjective, and often relies on opinion.

To get the most out of this exercise you should be prepared to discuss your findings with some other students.

As a guide, this piece of learning should take about two hours to complete.

Review Exercise

Test your understanding of this topic with the following exercise.

A company is considering replacing its telesales function with a web-based alternative. You are required to advise the company as to how the web site should be designed.

Produce a two page proposal that outlines the following:

  1. What usability features affect the design of the website.
  2. Describe some features of 'bad' websites and show how these can adversely affect the organisation.
  3. Illustrate three examples of effective web-sites, and explain which aspects make them 'good'.

The proposal should begin with a 100 word executive summary that describes the content of the rest of the document.
