TUTORIAL FOR "What are the information systems in the digital enterprise?"

Tutorial tasks

Read these questions before the tutorial and write some thoughts down.  You'll need to get together with your team that you are going to complete the assignment with.

We'll work through these questions during the tutorial as a group and put the best answers together.

These tasks require a little imagination.  Remember you can be reflecting on the business in the case study.

Tutorial Task 1

• How would you define Management Information Systems?
• What are the problems with installing and operating management information systems?
• What is the impact of information systems on strategic management process within the enterprise?

Tutorial Task 2

• Draw a diagram for order fulfilment process within an organisation that manufactures a product.

Help: In doing so you may consider a number of involved departments such as "Sales", "Accounts" and "Production". Your diagram could simply consist of processes depicted by boxes, swim lanes to identify departments and arrows to represent document flows.

• What are the important pieces of information that these systems must capture and work with?
• Looking at your diagram, how can information systems be used to support the order fulfilment process?
