User Interface design

I think it is too easy to make this topic too academic and therefore not as interesting as it could be. For obvious reasons, web site design has become a prime area for the consideration of interface design. It's fun, creative and topical. I think it's a good antidote to getting too serious, too soon.

Here is a web site that looks at how not to do web site design:

user interface hall of shame

There are a number of sites like this - just type "user interface hall of shame" into Google.

I suggest getting students to look at these sites and draw out generally useful conclusions for interface design.

One of the gurus of usability is Jacob Nielsen. This is his site, with an emphasis on web site design:

www.useit.com

I suggest getting students to check out the guidance and see if it makes sense and whether it accords with the guidelines obtained earlier.
