A variety of external recruitment events are organised throughout the year. Details can be found in the Links and careers resources page of the Student information page and also on the Sheffield Universities Recruitment Fairs website. The Student information page also contains information on how best to prepare for these events.

You are encouraged to sign up for these events as they are subject to minimum numbers. Please be aware that if you do sign up to an event you will be expected to attend. Details on how to sign up will be included in each event page on an ad hoc basis.

As the placement student at the Sheffield Hallam Enterprise Centre, I was given the opportunity to visit Richard Branson's house last week. I was invited by Michael Overton, a student supported by the Hatchery team, who had entered a Virgin Pioneers competition with his business idea. He was shortlisted to a group of 8 people down from 500 entrants which gave him and one guest the opportunity to visit Richard Branson's house and to network with his top 100 investors.

  More than a third of jobs for new graduates are taken by people who have already had work experience with that employer, according to the latest update on the graduate jobs market. The report from High Fliers Research shows that employers are recruiting more graduates - but there are record numbers of graduates chasing jobs. Employers are reporting a 19% average increase in applications. Those without any work experience have "little or no chance", says the report.
