Introduction
New undergraduate students often experience difficulties in adjusting to the demands of university study, and particularly in doing assessed work. This guide has been designed to help such students in this transitional phase as they begin to write undergraduate level essays (the essay being the main form of coursework assessment for literary studies).
The guide aims:
- to give students clear and practical guidance on how to approach the literary studies essay, focusing on its critical content (rather than on secondary features such as bibliographies).
- to help students understand what it is that tutors expect in literary studies essays - the assessment criteria which are used in marking the work.
